Pace of play
Course was in decent shape. Course was a bit soft. Pace of play was absolutely trash. Teed off at 2:48 and finished the front 9 and 6 o’clock. The starter said that the pace was slow but I didn’t think it would be a snails pace.
Use Common Sense
We were a twosome who play at a very good pace. In front of us was a foursome of men who were always at least one hole behind and never thought about letting us play through. Could that be because a woman was part of the twosome? And is that why the starter didn’t ask the foursome if we could tee off before them?
Good Public Option
Staff was great from the man handling our bags to the lady making drinks at the turn (no beverage cart). They are doing irrigation work so the 3rd hole was closed and I was told by the starter that we should expect that to continue (on that hole or others after it) for several months. They try to get you to play the first hole again to get a full round of 18 in but there was a crowd waiting so we decided to skip it. We played early since had another round in a different course in the afternoon, so I can't speak to how pace of play is normally after several groups are out. Conditions are decent for a public course, not as good as you find at the semi-private clubs or resort courses but not bad considering how much use the place gets.
Today, December 23rd, I made a reservation at the Village Golf Club in Royal Palm Beach, Florida to play a round of golf. As I have done several times in the past BUT today was not usual and extremely disappointing. In preparation for my round, I purchased extra balls, arrived early, and hit a few balls at the driving range all prior to my 12:30 pm tee time. Twenty minutes prior to my Tee time, I went to the starter and told him that of my scheduled tee time, he replied that he didn't have any spot available for me to play and to check with the office. Upon talking to the office personnel, he reiterated the fact that there wasn't any spot for me to play because they were busy due to " The Canadians " that are playing. All of this despite arriving early, having a reservation, and playing this course on a regular basis. I have the golf reward card, use the service such as regripping my golf clubs, bringing my out-of-town guest to play the course, and using the range. An employee that heard the conversation and got up and said " What's going on, he is on the reservation list, he got to play." We went back outside to discuss with the starter, where I found the threesome that had the same tee time didn't want to play with me, which should NOT be their choice as this is a public course and I had a tee time. Disappointingly the starter and/or no employee enforced the policy to allow me to play during my reserved tee time. It was embarrassing, I felt humiliated in front of the golfers who witnessed this incident. Royal Palm Beach Village Golf do BETTER!
Challenging Course
We took a ride for over an hour to play here & it was worth it !!! A great challenging & good conditioned course. We'll definitely be back !!!
For a public Course, this course is in great condition. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend.
